About

Selina Wang is an award-winning international correspondent for CNN, based at the network’s Beijing bureau. She is responsible for reporting on key stories from China and the Asia-Pacific region for CNN’s television and digital platforms.

Wang was pivotal to the network’s coverage of the Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022, held under the world’s strictest Covid countermeasures. She was CNN’s sole news correspondent reporting from inside the Olympic “bubble” that was created to separate the Games from the rest of China’s population.

Prior to taking up her position in Beijing, Wang was based in Tokyo and covered the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. In the year leading up to the Games, she led the network’s coverage from Japan, be it breaking news, in depth analysis or exclusive interviews. Wang reported on the challenges Japan faced hosting the Games during the pandemic as well as the opposition to the Olympics from the business community, public health workers and Olympic volunteers. During the Games, she secured interviews with athletes, officials and led coverage of key events.

She has also fronted coverage of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic around the world, rising U.S.-China tensions, and China’s growing influence in Hong Kong. She has become a key voice and expert on China’s economic, political, and societal transformation.

Wang is also a host of CNN’s long-form feature program, ‘Marketplace Asia’. Every other month, she takes viewers into different business trends with comprehensive interviews and profiles. Wang has also hosted episodes of CNN’s award-winning feature show ‘Eco Solutions’ as well as ‘Innovate Japan’.

Prior to joining CNN, Wang was a correspondent and anchor for Bloomberg TV based in Beijing. Before moving to China she was based in San Francisco covering the global technology industry, venture capital and social media industry for Bloomberg News, Television and Bloomberg Businessweek Magazine. Wang has also reported across Bloomberg’s platforms in New York and Hong Kong.

In 2021, an episode of ‘Eco Solutions’ Wang hosted was awarded Best Lifestyle Program at the Asian Academy Creative Awards. Her work has also been recognized by the Newswomen’s Club of New York, winning the Front Page Award, and she has received an honorable mention from the Society of Business Editors and Writers.

Wang was born in Washington State and graduated from Harvard University with an Economics degree and a secondary degree in government. At Harvard she was a John Harvard Scholar for being in the top 5 percent of her class and was awarded the Detur Book Prize for her high academic standing. Wang is fluent in Mandarin.
