That's all, folks

Well, that’s it for another action-packed night of Champions League drama.

If Wednesday’s fixtures are half as entertaining then we’re going to be in for a real treat.

See you then!

'A joke'

Real Madrid’s draw against Club Brugge feels like a lifetime ago.

While there was certainly more than an element of comical good fortune for Club Brugge’s two goals, Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane though they were no laughing matter.

For his first-half brace, Emmanuel Dennis completely lost control of his feet but on both occasions managed to find the back of the Real net.

You can read the full match report here.

'North London is red'

Tottenham fans probably thought they had seen the last of Serge Gnabry after the German left rivals Arsenal in 2016 … but he was back with a vengeance in north London to help Bayern Munich thrash Spurs 7-2 in the Champions League.

For a full recap of an astonishing, record-breaking evening, you can find Ben Church’s match report here.

'It's my responsibility'

Up next for Tottenham is a trip to Brighton in the Premier League.

Several of these players now need to stand up and be counted.

Mauricio Pochettino was powerless as Tottenham was hammered by Bayern.

'It's hard to accept this type of result'

After keeping his Tottenham players behind in the dressing room for quite some time, Mauricio Pochettino has finally spoken to the media.

Oh to have been a fly on the wall for that post-match debrief.

The Argentine was speaking to BT Sport.

Unwanted history

It goes from bad to worse for Tottenham, as Mauricio Pochettino’s side make history.

But not the good kind.

Touchdown!

I think this is what’s known as ‘rubbing salt into the wounds.’

All pain, no gain

If only there was a photo that summed up Tottenham’s night …

Serge Gnabry put on a masterclass against Tottenham Hotspur.

Full time: Tottenham 2-7 Bayern Munich

It feels a long, long time ago that Son Heung-min put Spurs ahead (and deservedly so it must be said).

Since then, it’s all been downhill as Bayern embarrass the north Londoners on home soil.

If Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino wasn’t already under pressure, he certainly is now.

There will be a few in that Tottenham dressing room who will need to take a long, hard look at themselves.

GOAL! Spurs 2-7 Bayern (yes, seven!)

No, you’re not seeing things.

Serge Gnabry has just fired in his fourth goal of the game and this has turned into a humiliating night for Tottenham.

GOAL! Tottenham 2-6 Bayern Munich

This has very quickly turned into an embarrassing night for Tottenham.

When Harry Kane scored from the penalty spot to make it 4-2, it looked as though Spurs were back in the game.

Since then, it’s been all Bayern. Lewandowski scores his second of the match to make it 6-2.

GOAL! Gnabry nabs his hat-trick

From a seemingly harmless position deep inside Bayern’s own half, to scoring within the space of five seconds sees Serge Gnabry complete his hat-trick.

It’s a long ball over the Tottenham defense from Thiago Alcantara and Gnabry takes two stunning touches to surge away from Jan Vertonghen, before calmly sending Hugo Lloris the wrong way and slotting the ball into the bottom corner.

It caps a wonderful individual night for the former Arsenal man.

'Twenty is plenty'

For the second consecutive season, Bayern Munich fans have protested the price of away tickets in the Champions League.

“UEFA’s price cap: Far from a reality. Stop clubs’ pricing insanity. Twenty is plenty,” the banner at Tottenham’s stadium reads.

For more details on the “Twenty is plenty” protest, you can read last season’s report here.

Bayern Munich fans protest the prices of Champions League tickets.

No penalty...

It looks like Spurs might have got away with one here.

Danny Rose goes flying into a challenge on Kingsley Coman in the box, tries to pull his feet out of the way but makes contact with the Bayern forward.

The referee consults VAR but no penalty is given – the crowd breathe a collective sigh of relief around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Gnabry on fire

Serge Gnabry’s two quick-fire goals looked to have put the game beyond Tottenham before Harry Kane’s penalty.

Has the former Arsenal man done enough to get one over on his old enemy?

Serge Gnabry celebrates after scoring his team's third goal.

GOAL! Spurs 2-4 Bayern

Harry Kane steps up and makes no mistake from the spot.

It’s a brilliant penalty – Manuel Neuer guesses the right way and is at full stretch but still can’t get anyway near it.

Penalty to Spurs!

A lifeline for Tottenham as Danny Rose is brought down in the box by Kingsley Coman.

GOAL! Spurs 1-4 Bayern

Make that four!

In the blink of an eye, Spurs somehow finds itself 4-1 down.

An awful attempt at passing out from the back sees Harry Winks lose the ball and it’s Serge Gnabry again who drills a first-time effort off the post and in.

It’s no less than Spurs deserve this half – it’s been a sloppy start.

GOAL! Spurs 1-3 Bayern

Game over?

Almost out of nowhere, Bayern opens up a two-goal lead. It’s a scintillating drive forward from former Arsenal man Serge Gnabry, who cuts inside of a helpless Toby Alderweireld and buries a shot into the bottom corner.

He looked like he particularly enjoyed that one against his old north London rival.

Half-time changes

As the second half begins, an interesting change from Bayern boss Niko Kovac as he brings on stylish midfielder Thiago Alcantara for full-back David Alaba.

Tottenham needs a strong start to this half and it has the bit between its teeth.

Man of the moment

Who else but him?

Season after season, Robert Lewandowski continues to prove he’s still one of the best strikers in the world and, at 31 years of age, shows no signs of slowing down.

The Polish forward has now scored 13 goals in just 10 appearances in all competitions for Bayern Munich this season, more than any other player in the big-five European leagues. [Opta]

Robert Lewandowski celebrates giving Bayern Munich the lead.

GOAL! Spurs 1-2 Bayern

Bayern Munich has turned things around in north London!

With virtually the last kick of the first half, Robert Lewandowski scores a stunner to put the Germans in the lead for the first time.

After a scramble in the box, the Polish forward takes one touch, swivels and strikes without even looking up at goal, drilling his shot into the bottom corner.

A sucker punch for Tottenham.

And with that, the referee blows for half time.

All-action

Although Son Heung-min got the goal, Tanguy Ndombele has probably been Tottenham’s best player.

The midfielder is linking up well with the forwards, in particular Son, but Bayern are just beginning to get a foothold of the game in midfield.

Spurs’ marquee summer signing had a brilliant chance to regain the lead for his side, but could only fire his first-time effort at Manuel Neuer.

Tanguy Ndombele weaves his way past two Bayern players.

Stunning stadium

Bayern Munich boasts one of the most impressive home grounds in Europe.

Tonight, it travels to arguably the only stadium on the continent nicer than its own.

Tottenham’s shiny new stadium has played host to some cracking matches in its short history – and already looks like adding another to that list tonight.

Quite the stage for arguably the best tie of the round.

That didn't last long...

The home fans had barely finished celebrating before Joshua Kimmich had equalized.

It was a wonderful strike from the 24-year-old that under-fire goalkeeper Hugo Lloris could do little about.

Joshua Kimmich celebrates his equalizer.

London rain

The conditions are literally perfect for an entertaining game here.

It’s been pouring with rain for most of the day in London and conditions have not improved this evening.

There have already been two early goals and you would not bet against there being more.

Tottenham's striker Son Heung-Min scored the game's opening goal as rain pours down.

GOAL! Spurs 1-1 Bayern

And Tottenham’s lead evaporates in the blink of an eye.

Joshua Kimmich is given far too much time on the edge of the Spurs box and curls a wonderful effort past Hugo Lloris into the far corner.

GOAL! Spurs 1-0 Bayern

Third time’s a charm for Heung-Min?Son.

An errant pass in the Bayern defense falls at the feet of Moussa Sissoko, who slides a pass into the box for Son.

After missing two previous chances, he makes no mistake this time and drills a hard shot under Manuel Neuer’s hand.

That was a bad error from the usually dependable Corentin?Tolisso.

Chance!

The game’s first real chance goes Tottenham’s way.

Moussa?Sissoko does brilliantly on the left to wriggle free and find Tanguy Ndombele, who threads a pinpoint through ball into the path of Heung-Min?Son.

You really would back the South Korean to score there, but he scuffs his shot into the floor after Manuel Neuer does well to close down the angle.

Early save

Tottenham starts the match on the front foot but are caught cold with Bayern’s first long ball over its defense.

Serge?Gnabry races through and fires a thunderous strike at goal that Hugo Lloris does well to punch away.

Slow starters

Phew… if that wasn’t enough excitement for you, up next is the small matter of Tottenham vs. Bayern Munich.

The Champions League break provided no respite for Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino.

This time last week, Spurs were being eliminated from the English League Cup by Colchester United, a team ranked 70 places below it in England’s third tier.

After throwing away a two-goal lead away at Olympiacos in the first round of fixtures, the pressure is already on Pochettino as Tottenham hosts Bayern Munich.

However, Spurs know a slow start to the group stages is not the end of the world. Last season it still reached the Champions League final despite accumulating just one point from its opening three matches.

FT: Atalanta 1-2 Shakhtar Donetsk

More drama in Italy.

Manor Solomon scored a 95th minute winner to give Shakhtar Donetsk a potentially vital away win in today’s other early kick-off.

I need a lie down but we still have six games to go…

FT: Real Madrid 2-2 Club Brugge

WHAT. A. GAME.

Club Brugge hold on for a well-earned draw and will be celebrating tonight.

Real Madrid can take some solace from its second-half response but a draw is simply not enough for a club of this size.

Questions will be asked but qualification into the knockout rounds is still very much possible.

Frantic

One minute of added time to left play and both teams can still win this.

Real Madrid players are pouring forward but that’s leaving space for Club Brugge.

Real Madrid's midfielder Casemiro scores the equalizing goal.

Early bath

Two yellow cards in just 10 minutes for Ruud Vormer really puts his teammates in trouble.

In truth they were two reckless challenges from the experienced captain – he should have known better.

Ruud Vormer receives his marching orders.

GOAL: Real Madrid 2-2 Club Brugge

There we have it.

From the resulting free-kick, Real Madrid finds the equalizer with another header.

This time Casemiro gets ahead of his man to guide the effort into the corner of the net.

Can Madrid find a winner? Less than five minutes to find out.

RED CARD (Club Brugge)

Ruud Vormer is walking down the tunnel and the Belgians really are up against it now.

The captain picks up his second yellow of the game and Real Madrid has a free-kick.

Relentless

This match has been played like a basketball game.

Every time Real Madrid comes forward, Club Brugge launches a counter attack of its own and there has barely been time to breathe.

The players will be feeling it as we enter the last 10 minutes (also, spare a thought for those writing live blogs).

Real Madrid's defender Marcelo chases after the ball.

Captain fantastic

What a time for Sergio Ramos to get his first goal of the season for Real Madrid.

So often the hero with big goals at the biggest of moments, could his latest prove to be the turning point or just a consolation?

We have 15 minutes left to find out…

Could Sergio Ramos' strike prove to be the turning point?

Substitutions

Zinedine Zidane plays his final card as Vinícius Júnior replaces Lucas Vazquez.

Twenty minutes left to play and Real Madrid cannot afford any injuries. This is going to be tense…

Meanwhile, Emmanuel?Dennis is replaced with Lois Openda and will not get a hat-trick here tonight.

Here we go

That goal has given Real Madrid some much-needed confidence and the Bernabeu is rocking.

Club Brugge is defending with its life but can it stem the tide of Madrid attacks? This is going to feel like a long half for the Belgians.

Last time I said that, they scored…

Captain Sergio Ramos tries to lift the crowd after getting a

GOAL: Real Madrid 1-2 Club Brugge

Real Madrid has one back. Sergio Ramos climbs highest to head to ball into the back of the net.

VAR gives the goal but there was more than a hint of offside about that …

Interesting changes...

Well, Zinedine Zidane needed to do something at half time but no one would have expected this.

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is replaced by Alphonse Areola whilst Marcelo comes on for Nacho.

Was Courtois injured? We’ll have to wait until after the game for that answer.

Meanwhile, the action has restarted.

Thibault Courtois was substituted at half time.

And breathe...

What a ridiculous game.

After two comical goals, Club Brugge must be delighted and it deserves the first half lead.

Meanwhile, despite creating a number of chances, Madrid looks so vulnerable at the back and now has a mountain to climb.

Karim can't believe it

And who can blame him?

The Frenchman has arguably been the brightest Real player – though that isn’t really saying much.

Benzema almost got in behind the Brugge defense with a wriggling run … but that’s about it.

I’ll just repeat the half-time scoreline just in case you think you’re dreaming: Real Madrid 0-2 Club Brugge.

Karim Benzema is stunned by Club Brugge.

Half time

I feel like I’m repeating myself here.

Once again Toni Kroos fires a shot wide and Karim Benzema almost creates a chance for himself but Madrid is running out of ideas.

The visiting fans are delirious as the referee brings an end to the first half whilst Madrid players are subjected to a chorus of boos.

Who saw this coming? I certainly didn’t.

GOAL: Real Madrid 0-2 Club Brugge

Unbelievable.

Luka Modric gives the ball away and Emmanuel?Dennis punishes him.

The striker once again produces an unconventional finish but the result is the same. The Belgians are 2-0 up and Madrid fans are furious.

Frustration growing

There is still a long way to go in this game but Real Madrid fans will be worried.

Despite all the chances, the players look low on confidence and even Zinedine Zidane is looking concerned.

Toni Kroos has another chance but, yet again, the finish is missing.

Real Madrid's French coach Zinedine Zidane shouts instructions to his players,

What a save

Club Brugge is really being tested here but Simon Mignolet is certainly doing his bit.

The keeper pulls off a wonderful save to prevent Raphael Varane’s bullet header hitting the back of the net.

You feel it won’t be the last save he makes tonight.

We're as confused as you, Karim

Karim Benzema, so far unable to get into the game, looks on with a bewildered look on his face.

A penny for the Frenchman’s thoughts?

Karim Benzema looks on as Real Madrid trails Club Brugge.

Chances for Madrid

That was almost the equalizer.

Madrid work the ball well and Luka Modric fires a shot just wide of the post. Madrid is probing but Club Brugge continues to look dangerous on the break.

The Croatian’s strike is swiftly followed by a deflected volley from Toni Kroos that whistles inches past the post.

This match is perfectly poised for plenty of goals…

Shock start

It may have taken VAR almost two minutes to award that Club Brugge goal, but boy was it worth the wait for those players.

The eventual decisive touch from Emmanuel?Dennis may have been very fortunate, but the Belgian fans congregated high in the stands certainly don’t mind – they’re rocking!

Club Brugge players celebrate the opening goal against Real Madrid.

Real test for Madrid

What a start at the Bernabeu.

The home supporters are letting their feelings known as their side look shaken by the early goal. Brugge almost get in behind again but the linesman comes to Madrid’s rescue.

GOAL -- Brugge

What do I know?

Brugge has taken the lead. The Belgians spring a wonderful counter attack and ball is fumbled into the back of the net by Emmanuel?Dennis.

The referee consults VAR but the goal stands…

What do we have on our hands here?

Early chance

Real Madrid has enjoyed almost all of the early possession as Brugge look to bed in for the night. You fear this could be a long night for the visitors.

An early chance for the hosts from a corner comes to nothing. How long can Brugge stay solid for though?

We have kick-off

We are almost underway in Spain as Real Madrid looks to get its Champions League season properly underway.

Zinedine Zidane’s side is expected to put on a show here but can its Belgian opposition spring a surprise? You wouldn’t put it past this competition.

The iconic anthem is over and the crowd is looking excited. Let’s go!

Line-ups announced

He may not have had the perfect start to his Real Madrid career but Eden Hazard has an opportunity to truly announce himself at the Bernabeu today.

He has yet to score a goal or register an assist in three La Liga games this season but the No. 7 starts for Zinedine Zidane in a team without Gareth Bale.

Meanwhile, there is a familiar face in the Club Brugge line-up for those Premier League fans among you. Former Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet starts in goal.

Real Madrid: Courtois, Carvajal, Varane, Ramos, Nacho, Modric, Casemiro, Kroos, Vázquez, Benzema, Hazard

Subs: Areola, Milit?o, Marcelo, Valverde, Jovic, Isco, Vinícius Júnior

Club Brugge: Mignolet, Mata Pedro Lourenco, Mechele, Deli, Ricca, Vormer, Rits, Vanaken, Diatta, Dennis, Tau

Subs: Sobol, Kossounou, Diagne, Schrijvers, Cools, Horvath, Openda

'I have no fear'

Despite Real Madrid being far from impressive so far this season, Club Brugge goalkeeper Simon Mignolet is under no illusions about the task that lies ahead this evening.

The 31-year-old, a Champions League winner with Liverpool last season, made a summer transfer to the Belgian side and is the only player in the squad to have played against the 13-time European Cup champion.

Club Brugge coach Philippe Clement said:

Pressure on ... or off?

What a difference a fortnight makes. When Real Madrid lost 3-0 to Paris Saint-Germain in the opening round of Champions League fixtures, it felt as though coach Zinedine Zidane might already have one foot out of the revolving Bernabeu door.

Zinedine Zidane and Real Madrid suffered a heavy opening day defeat to PSG.

However, after three straight La Liga victories and an unbeaten start to the domestic season, Real is sitting pretty at the top of the table. Now comes the small matter of transferring that form into European competition.

Zidane couldn’t have asked for an easier game from his group following that humiliation in Paris, in which Real didn’t record a single shot on target all match.

Belgian side Club Brugge travel to the Spanish capital having never made it out of the Champions League group stages.

It seems like a long time ago, so refresh your memories of Zidane’s nightmare evening in Paris here.
