spider-man 2 ps5 hands on lead cnnu

Like the Sinister Six ravaging the streets of New York City, the Spider-Man PS5 has swung into stores to wreak havoc on wallets everywhere. Sony’s latest limited-edition console features a striking design and custom controller inspired by October’s hotly anticipated Spider-Man 2 game and includes a digital code that’ll let you hop into the wall-crawler’s latest adventure as soon as it releases.

But is this special symbiote-laden system worth shelling out $600 for? And can you even find one? That all depends on a few things. But like Peter Parker grabbing photos for the Bugle, we’ve got all the pictures of the Spider-Man PS5 you need — and some very good news for folks who already own Sony’s latest console.

The Spider-Man 2 PS5 features a striking two-tone design with a controller to match, as well as a digital copy of this fall’s hotly anticipated superhero blockbuster.

The other side of the panel is all black with a smaller Spidey logo at the bottom, as if to hint at the transformation being complete. I especially love how sleek and minimalist this side looks, and it’s definitely the part I’d put front and center if I had this machine standing up in my gaming area. As someone who owns a 2020 PS5, I was also pleased to finally see some of the subtle improvements Sony made in more recent units — including a revised screw that makes it much easier to remove and attach the stand when you want to switch between horizontal and vertical orientation.

But my favorite part of this spectacular package is the controller, which has a similar two-tone design, a big ol’ Spider-Man logo on the touchpad, white buttons for some attractive contrast and a matte finish that feels nicer than the glossy plastic on the stock DualSense pad. There’s even less red on the gamepad than there is on the console, resulting in a controller that’s stylish enough to show off my Spider-Man fandom but subtle enough to blend into my entertainment area. It’s the kind of controller I’d love to buy separately from the console — and unlike with some special-edition systems, I actually can.

Show off your symbiote fandom with this Spidey-themed version of Sony’s excellent DualSense controller.

This console cover will let you turn your regular ol’ PS5 into a slick Spidey-themed console.

In fact, if you already own a PS5, you can buy all the parts needed to turn your plain white PlayStation into the same exact symbiote-infected Spidey machine that Sony’s selling for $600. The Spider-Man 2 DualSense controller is available for $80, while a set of swap-on console covers will run you $65 each. Both of these accessories are about $10 more than their non-branded counterparts, but they’re a much better option than shelling out a few hundred bucks for a Spidey-themed system.

As you might imagine, this lineup of Spidey products is selling fast — we’ve been able to find the controller and a few consoles in stock as of this writing, whereas the covers are a bit more scarce. Be sure to follow our usual PS5 restock advice and keep a close watch on your items of choice. Just like Venom getting his tendrils around Spider-Man, it’ll only be a matter of time before you capture the web-slinger for yourself.
