Hello, from CNN I'm Jo Beck with the 5 things you need to know for Tuesday, October 8th.
00:00:08
People are rushing to leave Florida's Gulf Coast as Hurricane Milton approaches. It intensified at a mindboggling rate to a Cat five storm yesterday before weakening to a level four. And it's expected to be a Category three when it makes landfall in the U.S. tomorrow. But it's also forecast to grow in size, meaning it's dangerous. Impacts will be spread over a much larger area. As more than 12 million people are under hurricane watches and warnings, Tampa residents are trying to flee to the north to escape the hurricane. With the mass exodus causing big backups and standstill traffic on some interstates. There are mandatory evacuation orders in place for parts of the area. And the city's mayor delivered a dire warning to anyone who ignores them.

I can say without any dramatization whatsoever, if you choose to stay in one of those evacuation areas, you're going to die.

Vice President Kamala Harris has faced tough questions about border security, her economic plans and Russia's war in Ukraine. And a wide ranging 60 Minutes interview on CBS. She was also asked about whether the U.S. has a, quote, "close ally" in Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a question that she skirted around.

I think, with all due respect, the better question is, do we have an important alliance between the American people and the Israeli people? And the answer to that question is yes.

Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump is vowing to, quote, remove Jew haters if reelected. He made the comments during an event commemorating the first anniversary of the October 7th Hamas attacks in Israel.

They only want to destroy our country and we will never let the horrors of October 7th be repeated here on Americans.

'He also claimed that, quote, anti-Jewish hatred was within the ranks of the Democratic Party and that the U.S. and Israel's bond will be stronger than ever if he wins the election. As both presidential candidates discuss, Israel is an election issue. Its military is striking on multiple fronts in the Middle East. The region is facing its greatest upheaval in half a century, as Israel's prime minister vows the country will, quote, continue to fight. We asked CNN's Paula Hancocks for the latest.

Well Jo, Israel says it is expanding its offensive into south west Lebanon while still claiming it is a limited operation. Hezbollah is said to have launched almost 200 projectiles on Monday, saying they're targeting military bases and soldiers. It has been a deadly 24 hours in Gaza. At least ten killed in Jabalya refugee camp where Israel says Hamas is regrouping. Israeli air strikes also killed around 30 in central Gaza. Well, evacuation orders cover the vast majority of the Gaza Strip.

The mayor of a crime ridden city in Mexico has been killed just one week after taking office. It's the latest in a string of violent attacks targeting politicians in the country and comes only days after another official in the city was shot dead. Their deaths once again have people worried about security in Mexico, which recently held its biggest and most violent general election in history that saw at least 34 candidates assassinated during campaign season. A report by Integral Air Consultants says criminal organizations use violence to influence politics at the municipal level because mayors are linked to law enforcement and the local economy, meaning they can protect them from punishment or prosecution.

An airline has apologized after things got unexpectedly racy on a flight from Sydney to Tokyo recently. We'll tell you what happened, next.
00:03:56
'Qantas Airlines has apologized after an R-rated movie was played on all the screens on board a flight from Sydney to Tokyo. The airline said a technical issue meant people couldn't choose their own individual movies, so instead staff played one for everyone. There was requested by a, quote, number of passengers. Qantas didn't name the movie in question. The photos posted on social media by people claiming to be on the flight suggest it was "Daddio," a drama starring Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn that's rated R for language throughout sexual material and brief graphic nudity. It reportedly took an hour for staff to change the movie to something kid friendly.

That's all for now. I'll be back with our next episode at 9 a.m. Eastern.
