Washington CNN  —

Former special counsel Robert Mueller has returned to work at the private law firm WilmerHale, the firm announced Tuesday.

Mueller’s “practice will focus on high-profile investigations and crisis management, similar to his work at the firm before his service as special counsel,” the firm said in a statement.

“I’m glad to be at WilmerHale once again, a firm with a tradition of honoring public service,” Mueller in the statement. “It was an honor to serve as special counsel. Now, I look forward to resuming my private practice alongside the talented lawyers at the firm.”

Mueller, who as special counsel oversaw the Justice Department’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, will be joined at the firm by Jim Quarles and Aaron Zebley, both of whom were top advisers to Mueller during his nearly two-year long investigation.

All three attorneys had been at WilmerHale before the opening of the special counsel’s office in May 2017.

Robert Novick, the firm’s co-managing partner, praised Mueller’s return to WilmerHale, saying in the statement that “few lawyers have been entrusted with as many matters of national significance as Bob, in both his public service and in private practice.”

“Bob embodies the highest values of our firm and profession,” Novick said.

Mueller first began working at WilmerHale in 2014 following a 12-year stint as FBI director under former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush.
