The Afghanistan national football team has unveiled images of its new jersey, with the women's version including a hijab. It was revealed to the public on International Women's Day.

The jersey was modeled by Khalida Popal, a former captain of the Afghan women's team who was forced to retire due to a knee injury.

The jersey is designed by Danish sportswear brand Hummel, which took advantage of football's world governing body FIFA lifting its ban on head covers in 2014.

Hummel also released images of Afghanistan's white away strip. Both versions of the kit include a lion motif.

Ibtihaj Muhammad became the first Muslim woman to represent the U.S. in international competition in her sport, fencing, winning team gold at the 2014 World Championships. The 30-year-old competes wearing a hijab.
