Marching orders —
Barcelona heads into its Champions League last-16 second leg against Manchester City with a 2-0 advantage, as Martin Demichelis' red card proved a turning point during the first leg at the Etihad Stadium.

Tiki-taka —
Lionel Messi converted the subsequent penalty, before Dani Alves scored a late second for Barcelona to give City a mountain to climb in the return game at the Camp Nou.

Another penalty —
Momentum also swung in Bayern Munich's favor after Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny was sent off for a foul on Arjen Robben, although David Alaba missed the resulting spot kick.

Champions elect? —
Bayern showed its class, however, against the 10-man home side as Toni Kroos scored a spectacular opener and Thomas Muller doubled the scoring late on, giving the defending champion a big advantage to take back to Germany.

'I am Zlatan' —
Zlatan Ibrahimovic continued his fine form this season with two more goals as Paris Saint-Germain brushed aside Bayer Leverkusen 4-0 in Germany to put one foot in the quarterfinals.

Runaway winners —
Real Madrid has also all but booked a place in the quarterfinals after a stunning 6-1 triumph at Schalke, with forwards Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema all scoring twice.

More United misery —
Manchester United, however, had far less joy on the road, going down 2-0 to Olympiakos in Athens -- a result which piles more pressure on manager David Moyes. United will need to produce something special at Old Trafford to make up for a dismal display in the first leg.

Away goals —
Chelsea fared better, securing a 1-1 draw at Galatasaray. Fernando Torres' opener ensured the London club was the only English side not to lose its first leg. Elsewhere, Atletico Madrid won 1-0 at AC Milan, while Borussia Dortmund triumphed 4-2 against Zenit St. Petersburg in Russia.
